Pelvic floor massage is a specialty practice which can help persons who have extreme tension (or laxity) in the base of the torso. Anatomically, the pelvic floor is a muscular diaphragm, much like the diaphragm at the base of your ribs. Massage to the external muscles can give relief and can unlock the entire low back and pelvis of the body. Many persons who sit for a living have tension from holding themselves in a static position.
There are many benefits to Pelvic Floor work. Contrary to what you might assume, this work does not have to be invasive. And the relief you may feel will far outweigh the costs. Often this work is a last resort after trauma. People may seek Pelvic Floor Massage after years of incontinence or pain. For some the symptom which drives them is erectile dysfunction- which can be helped by external Pelvic Floor work. (I can refer you for internal work, if that is required, but that internal layer is smooth muscle, and the smooth muscles are often regulated by massage.
Life coaching sessions can vary in length, but typically last an hour and a half. The frequency of and duration of sessions can vary depending on how well the client retains the work we have done.
The session will focus on all the muscles which connect to the pelvis. This means low back, gluteal (bottom), leg muscles all around, as well as muscles just inside the pelvic bone. Careful draping will keep the modesty of the practitioner and the client. We will work from the outside in, and then do some lymphatic strokes to the main nodes to collect any debris we create
This therapy focuses on the skeletal muscles which do the labor of moving the body and supporting the body in movement. Any erectile tissue is not included in the treatment, and I will not be participating in any sex therapy. Clients are expected to quickly get that the focus of the massage is to achieve a therapeutic benefit of relaxation. Clients will be coached in breathing techniques and taught about how to relax the pelvic floor for themselves.
In at least two thirds of the cases I see, something has compromised the pudenal nerve. This becomes a functional problem, wherein the nerve pathway has pinched off. This is easily solved with massage - but will take at least 6 sessions, maybe more. The solution is to do the integration of the pelvic floor with all the other massage to get relief for the nerve pathway and the floor it enervates. In about half of these, there is a problem at the level of the spine. In that case, we will adjust the massage to prevent further injury, and I will send you out to see a specialist I know to get specific images. I have a referral network, and we will see you thorough.
